The Corps Battle Honour

When asked to list suitable battle honours for the presentation of new Colours in 1827 the Corps produced a list of 110. This great range of honours led King George IV to determine that the Globe encircled with Laurel should become the Corps’ crest. The new colours presented to the Royal Marines in 1827 bore the single battle honour “Gibraltar”. HRH The Duke of Clarence when presenting the new colours stated “…Marines were engaged in this capture and none but Marines were employed by the Price of Hesse in the glorious defence…”
